BLIZZARD BAG ASSIGNMENT #1--Fall Into an Artwork!
READ ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW FIRST!
1. Click on the painting to go to the Inside Art web site. (Or go to: http://www.eduweb.com/insideart/)
Here you will "fall into this painting" and discover it through an interactive activity.
2. Follow along with the story by reading the information on each page and clicking on the correct links when asked to do so. You will learn the Who, What, How, and Where of the painting.
3. Once you have learned the Who, What, How, and Where of the painting by clicking on the correct links, click on the "Out" button to "get out of the painting" and take the 7 question quiz.
4. Click on the link at the bottom of the quiz to score your answers. Retake the quiz until you get all 7 questions correct.
5. Email me the answers to the quiz in some way. You could print out the quiz score page (right click on the quiz and choose print) and then send me a photo of the printed page. You could type the answers in an email and send this. Or if using a tablet or mobile device take a screen shot and then email me the photo. You can also write out the 7 questions and correct answers on notebook paper and take a photo of this and email it to me. Send your answers to: [email protected]

BLIZZARD BAG ASSIGNMENT #2--Create a Picasso Portrait
Do parts 1-4 below but first view the unique abstract portraits shown here in the slide show that were painted by Pablo Picasso. Part 1. What are 5 main characteristics that are seen throughout these portraits? Look at the unique way that Picasso used the elements of art (color, value, line, texture, shape, form, and space). The unique way an artist uses the elements it called their "style." Part 2. Create a portrait inspired by Picasso's abstract style that incorporates at least three of the five characteristics you identified in question #1 above by following Option 1, 2, or 3 below. Part 3. Write a paragraph describing your portrait. Include in this paragraph the 5 stylistic characteristics you saw in Picasso's portraits and describe how you used at least three of these characteristics in your own portrait. Be sure to also include a title for your portrait. Turn this paragraph in with your portrait. (If you choose option 2 you may just email your portrait to [email protected] instead of turning it in with your paragraph.) Part 4. Email me a photo of your portrait and paragraph to [email protected] Picasso Inspired Portrait Creation Options Option 1: Open the file below and follow the guidelines on how to draw a Cubism style portrait that shows a front and side view of the face at the same time. Draw on unlined paper but if you must use lined paper you will not loose points. You may alter the features or add additional details so it will be more like Picasso’s style. You may use whatever materials you would like to add color to your portrait.

Option 2: YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL DIRECTIONS BELOW (ESPECIALLY PARTS IN BOLD PRINT) TO GET CREDIT FOR YOUR PORTRAIT!
1. Go to the Picasso Head web site by clicking on the logo below and create a Cubism style portrait. (You will not be able to use a mobile device or tablet to create a portrait on this website. You must have a computer with Flash enabled).
2. Spend some time experimenting on the site and really put some time and effort into your portrait. Remember to use at least 3 of Picasso's stylistic characteristics in your portrait.
3. Add your first initial and last name in the signature box (you must do this so I can search for and find your portrait). The signature box is at the bottom on the left hand side, right above the Help link.
4. When finished click on "Save/Email This Painting".
5. In the title box type "Lisbon Blizzard Bag" (you must do this so I can search for and find your portrait).
6. Email the portrait to: [email protected] (you may also email it to yourself). Be sure to click "Save My Painting to the Gallery".
Note: If you would like to take a screen shot of your computer screen and then print out the image of your portrait you may, but it is not required. Ask an older sibling or an adult to help you with this if you don't know how. The directions may vary by computer.

1. BLIZZARD BAG ASSIGNMENT #3--Be an Art Detective!
Solve the Case of the Mysterious Object by clicking HERE or on on the image of the sculpture (but FIRST READ all of the directions below). You will need a desktop computer with Flash installed to play this game. If you only have a mobile device, follow the alternate directions below.
ALTERNATE DIRECTIONS FOR THOSE WITHOUT A DESKTOP COMPUTER WITH FLASH: 1. Read about the artist of this sculpture by clicking HERE. 2. Answer the following questions (type or write out):
4. Do rough sketches for a similar sculpture from at least 2 views (front, side, top, or back) that is inspired by this artist's style. It should have several stylistic characteristics in common with this artists style. Sketches should be "rough"/quick and take no more than 5-10 min. each. (You may do the rough sketches on the same paper as the answers to the three questions even if it is lined paper.) 5. Title your sculpture and turn the sketches in with your answered questions from #2 above by emailing them to [email protected] OPTIONAL FOR BONUS POINTS: Create a sculpture based on your rough sketches using modeling clay, paper clay, play dough, or homemade sculpting dough (look online for a recipe). Bring in a photo, email me a photo, or bring in your sculpture to share with the class. |
