Blizzard Bag Assignment #1--Art Speak 101
Click on the Starry Night painting shown here to go to the Eyes on Art web site or go to: http://tommarch.com/webquests/art2/artspeak/index.html
Complete the Art Speak 101 assignment as explained on the site but first read all directions below.
Basic Instructions
1. First read the instructions because there are a couple parts to ArtSpeak 101. Actually, it's best if you first use the Visual Glossary to understand key terms. You may also refer to the elements and principles we have discussed in class.
2. View the example writings posted at the beginner, middle, and advanced levels. Review the feedback rubric that I will use to evaluate your work that is also posted on the site.
3. Now that you know what some key art terms mean and how your critique will be evaluated, you can select one of the paintings (put a check mark in the box beside the painting). Type your first and last name in the box and then use the text field at the bottom of the page to describe your selected painting in your very best "ArtSpeak." You should have at least one very well written paragraph.
4. Click the Post My Artspeak button. Right click on the page that pops up and print it out to turn in. If you don't have a printer you may write out your critique by hand on notebook paper. Be sure to include the title of your painting in your written critique.
NOTE: If you are having problems printing the pop up window you may also copy and paste the image and your text in a Word document and then print this instead or email it to me. You may also screen shot the page and email it to me. If you do this with a cell phone, just make sure I can see your image and I will be able to read your text. Be aware that once the pop up window is closed your text will be lost! My email is [email protected] OR [email protected]

Blizzard Bag Assignment #2--Double Visions
Click on one of two artworks shown here to go to the Eyes on Art web site or go to: http://tommarch.com/webquests/art2/ Complete the Double Visions assignment as explained on the site (click on Double Visions link on the left hand side of the site) but first read all directions below. What to Do: The idea behind Double Visions is that sometimes seeing two artworks side-by-side helps us notice things we might miss if we only looked at one painting. You will find matched up pairs of artworks. Some of the works are very similar and some are very different. Look at the sets with an eye toward comparing and contrasting. |
- Look through the sets of artworks and pick one pair to look at more closely.
- Click on the heading, the pictures, or the picture titles to go to the page for that Double Vision number. The main idea is to look closely at the matched images. Use the questions and especially your own eyes and ideas to see things you might have missed if the pictures weren't paired together. Click on the pictures or the titles to go to a larger version of each work.
- Click on and view feedback rubric to understand how your critique will be scored.
- Type your first and last name in the box.
- Type a well written paragraph that answers the "Questions to Get You Started" posted on the page. RESTATE the questions in your sentences (don't just type incomplete sentences with the answers only). You must have at least one well written sentence that answers each question.
- Click on the Double Visions button when finished. Right click on the page that pops up and print it out to turn in. If you don't have a printer you may write out your critique by hand on notebook paper. Be sure to include the Double Visions # and the titles of your paintings in your written critique. NOTE: If you are having problems printing the pop up window you may also copy and paste the images and your text in a Word document and then print this or email it to me instead. - Make your art collection by selecting one artwork from each of the three categories--people, places, and things. The way you "choose" an artwork is by clicking in the "choose it" checkbox .
- When you have chosen the three artworks you'd like to hang in your own museum, type your first and last name in the "Your name" box at the bottom.
- Then complete the statement "The works that I chose show that I believe good art...." (What overall characteristic(s) make a good work of art.). Then write a minimum of two sentences per artwork explaining why you chose each piece. So you will end up with a minimum of 7 sentences typed in the box.
